USF med student earns award to study ovarian cancer
Third-year USF medical student Sasha M. Gourgue recently earned the Dr. Robert C. Knapp Medical Student Award for 2013-2014 from H.O.W. (Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper), an organization that educates women about ovarian cancer, the symptoms and the tools available for diagnosis and treatment.
The award includes $3,000 and allows medical students to shadow a board certified gynecologic oncologist in hopes that the students go on to a career in gynecologic oncology.
Gourgue, who was one of 10 students to receive the award this year, will be shadowing USF’s Mitchel Hoffman, MD, professor of Obstetrics And Gynecology and associate vice president for USF Health, for one month in August.
