Dr. Richard Roetzheim named Florida Family Physician of the Year

The Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) has named USF’s Richard Roetzheim, MD, MSPH, the 2011 Florida Family Physician of the Year. Dr. Roetzheim, professor and director of research at USF’s Department of Family Medicine, will be presented with the award Dec. 10 at the FAFP annual conference in Amelia Island, FL. “Dr. Roetzheim’s humanity, research expertise, teaching and care to patients are all being recognized through this award,” said H. Dr. Fenske receives inaugural Dermatologist of the Year Award

Dr. J. Robert Hamill (right), USF affiliate faculty member and past president of the Florida West Dermatology Society, presented the inaugural award to Dr. Fenske. Neil Alan Fenske, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, recently received the 2011 Dermatology of the Year Award from the  longstanding Florida West Coast Society of Dermatology. Levitt, MD, will speak to USF medical students in early 2012, sharing with them the lessons he has learned in his career, and which are still applicable to medical students and physicians today. Free flu shots Oct. 21 at College of Public Health

The USF College of Public Health 15th annual  Free Flu Shot Drive will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, at the college, 13201 Bruce B. Downs Blvd, Tampa FL 33612 (corner of Bruce B. Downs Blvd and Fletcher Ave.).  The shots will be available to adults ages 18 and older while supplies last. USF Health gastroenterologist Dr. Patrick G. Brady received the Florida Gastroenterologic Society’s highest honor, its Distinguished Service Award,” at the society’s annual meeting, September 17 in Orlando. Dr. Brady, a professor of medicine, is director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at the USF College of Medicine. He also directs the Gastroenterology Center at Tampa General Hospital. A new name and a new partner

USF Health has a new neighbor: Florida Hospital Tampa. That’s because on Tuesday, the hospital across the street changed its name – a change that also will signal a greater partnership with USF Health. Formerly called University Community Hospital, Florida Hospital Tampa adopted the branding identity of the other Adventist Health System hospitals in Florida.
