    USF Nursing student Lauren Wright receives top national scholarship

    USF College of Nursing student, Lauren Wright, received the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Dehradun, India for the summer 2014 semester. During her four-week study abroad, Wright will study traditional medicine while completing clinical rotations with a non-profit organization, Child Family Health International. She will spend her first two weeks in Dehradun to complete her clinical rotations at a nearby hospital and clinics.     USF Nursing students take part in community service work

    USF College of Nursing students are continuing their involvement in community service work throughout the Tampa Bay Area. Students recently volunteered at the American Heart Association (AHA) Strokes for Stroke Art Show in Ybor City, an event designed to showcase artwork created by stroke survivors and raise awareness about the disease. During this event, students helped welcome guests to the fundraiser.     For most students, summertime is filled with lots of fun, beach, travel and fewer classes. However, nursing students at University of South Florida are staying busy overseas making a difference in community health.     University of South Florida College of Nursing students and faculty volunteered at a special “15 Minutes For Your Health” free community heart screening event at Florida Hospital Tampa-Pepin Heart Institute on Feb 28.     USF Pre-Nursing LLC students volunteer at East-West Shrine Game Players Visit

    University of South Florida Pre-Nursing Living Learning Community (LLC) students volunteered at the 89th East-West Shrine all-star football game player’s visit on Jan. 18 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. More than 25 students volunteered their time to help Shriners Hospital For Children with different tasks during the big event. The all-star game benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children and helps support the hospital’s mission of providing expert care to children in need.     USF College of Nursing partners with local hospital to create mentorship program for students

    University of South Florida College of Nursing recently partnered with BayCare Health System, Inc. to create an Ambassador Mentorship Program for USF Nursing students who are working at Morton Plant Mease (MPM) hospital. The MPM hospital is owned and operated by BayCare Health System, Inc. The program is designed to give student-employees guidance and support during their academic journey at USF College of Nursing.     University of South Florida College of Nursing BS-PhD student, Carly Paterson, MS, was featured in the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence Spotlight in an extensive interview posted online. Paterson, who is a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar, was invited to discuss her life, passion for nursing, the Jonas Center, and more. Paterson received the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program Scholarship in 2012. She was awarded a total of $20,000 in funding.     University of South Florida College of Nursing Student Council held a Community Food Drive in recognition of National Food Day and World Food Day. The food drive was held as part of a friendly competition between all USF Health colleges, Oct. 23 through Dec. 5, 2013. USF College of Nursing collected food and drink items to donate to families and individuals who need help this holiday season.
