    USF Pre-Nursing LLC students volunteer at East-West Shrine Game Players Visit

    University of South Florida Pre-Nursing Living Learning Community (LLC) students volunteered at the 89th East-West Shrine all-star football game player’s visit on Jan. 18 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. More than 25 students volunteered their time to help Shriners Hospital For Children with different tasks during the big event. The all-star game benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children and helps support the hospital’s mission of providing expert care to children in need.     USF College of Nursing partners with local hospital to create mentorship program for students

    University of South Florida College of Nursing recently partnered with BayCare Health System, Inc. to create an Ambassador Mentorship Program for USF Nursing students who are working at Morton Plant Mease (MPM) hospital. The MPM hospital is owned and operated by BayCare Health System, Inc. The program is designed to give student-employees guidance and support during their academic journey at USF College of Nursing.     University of South Florida College of Nursing BS-PhD student, Carly Paterson, MS, was featured in the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence Spotlight in an extensive interview posted online. Paterson, who is a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar, was invited to discuss her life, passion for nursing, the Jonas Center, and more. Paterson received the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program Scholarship in 2012. She was awarded a total of $20,000 in funding.     USF Nursing Student Council holds Community Food Drive

    University of South Florida College of Nursing Student Council held a Community Food Drive in recognition of National Food Day and World Food Day. The food drive was held as part of a friendly competition between all USF Health colleges, Oct. 23 through Dec. 5, 2013. USF College of Nursing collected food and drink items to donate to families and individuals who need help this holiday season.     University of south Florida College of Nursing student, Jennifer Gerring, RN-BC, WCC, OMS, was invited to the 2013 American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) National Magnet Conference on Oct. 2 through Oct. 4 in Orlando, Fla.     Several local newspapers highlighted the University of South Florida College of Nursing’s $1.2M federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration to create a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing program for veterans and service members. This baccalaureate program, named the Creating Access to Registered Nurse Education for Veterans, or V-CARE, will offer veterans and service members the opportunity to earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing through a program that builds upon their military healthcare training and experience.     University of South Florida College of Nursing alum, Wayne Lile, BSN, was highlighted in the September Issue of the Military Advanced Education (MAE) Magazine for overcoming cancer as a soldier in the United States Army.
