Global Health Student is granted the HSHPS Award to carry out the 2012 Internship in Tropical Diseases and Global Health in EcuadorApril 30, 2012Ms. Bridget Leivan (Department of Global Health, University of South Florida) and Leonardo Martinez (Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences, Tulane University) have been granted the Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) Scholarship to carry out the 2012 Internship in Tropical Diseases and Global Health in Ecuador. Public health students from all across the country participate in HSHPS including students from Johns Hopkins, Tulane, the University of Puerto Rico and Columbia University. GH Alum Matt Tucker Receives AwardApril 30, 2012Dr. Matt Tucker & Dr. Dennis Kyle Dr. Matthew Tucker (Global Health PhD, 2010) returned to campus last week to receive the USF Outstanding Dissertation Award. Professor Karen Liller, Dean of the Graduate School, presided over the “Scholars of Excellence” celebration and she introduced Matt with comments about his outstanding work. Dr. Tucker is currently a scientist at the Biomedical Research Institute in Rockville, Maryland where he leads the NIH funded schistosomiasis resource center. USF malaria research showcased on Capitol HillApril 30, 2012Six years ago USF had no researchers working on malaria. $1.7 million NIH grant to Public Health will build research skills while helping adolescentsApril 30, 2012From left, Dr. Tom Massey, Dr. Julie Baldwin, Dr. Bruce Lubotsky Levin, and Donna Burton USF graduate students and community professionals will gain stronger research skills for addressing drug abuse and other behavioral health problems in children and adolescents with the help of a $1.72 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. COPH alumnus brings the health department to the classroomApril 30, 2012Todd Patrick, MPH (PHP,’09) is the Area 6 prevention training consultant and HIV/AIDS surveillance coordinator for the Hillsborough County Health Department in Tampa. However, he also doubles as an instructor in the college’s undergraduate program.
