Drs. Tom Bernard and John Petrila receive USF Outstanding Faculty Award
College of Public Health Professors Thomas Bernard, PhD, and John Petrila, JD, LLM, are receipts of the USF Outstanding Faculty Award. President Judy Genshaft presented the honor to 25 faculty at a dinner on January 24.
The award acknowledges university professors who earned national and international recognition from prestigious academic and professional organizations.
Drs. Bernard and Petrila were cited as Fulbright US Scholars. Dr. Bernard, professor and chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, journeyed to Loughborough University in the United Kingdom for his experience. And, Maastricht University in the Netherlands hosted Dr. Petrila, professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management.
Other honorees included individuals elected to the National Academies of Science, Distinguished University Professors, Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fulbright Scholars, and National Science Foundation CAREER Award winners.
“At the heart of any great university rests its faculty, talented and passionate scholars and teachers who devote their days and nights to seeking innovative solutions to pervasive problems, creating and transmitting new knowledge, and mentoring leaders for the next generation,” said USF Provost Ralph Wilcox.
