University of South Florida College of Public Health Professor Adewale Troutman, MD, MPH, NA, CPH, is featured in January issue of The Nation’s Health, the official newspaper of the American Public Health Association. In Vital Signs, Troutman shares how his less than ideal childhood evolved into a career in public health and created a man who “despises injustice, abhors racism and is dedicated to health equity, social justice and the right to health.”

As president of APHA, Troutman travels to more than 18 states and two continents. He believes in the “power of one,” but recognizes that a strong organization [APHA] “increases our reach and expands our ability to advocate for equity and justices and realize our strategic priorities.”

Dr. Troutman directs the Center for Leadership in Public Health and the MPH in public health practice program at the USF College of Public Health.  In November, he was installed as president of the American Public Health Association.
