Inaugural Girls on the Run Tampa Bay 5K a huge success
More than 600 runners, volunteers, and spectators attended the 2013 Girls on the Run Tampa Bay 5k held on May 4th at the HCC-Dale Mabry campus. Over $5000 in proceeds will support scholarships for Girls on the Run Tampa Bay. A special thank you goes out to the following COPH faculty, staff, students, and alumni who helped make the event a success: Faculty: Rita DeBate, Eric Buhi, Cheryl Vamos, Julie Baldwin; Staff: Lisa Sleek, Kristy James; Students: Trista Krone, Amanda Ellis, Lara Marsh, Katy Rosini, Maggie Walsh and all students enrolled in the PHC Intervention Methods course; Alumni: Alison Oberne ’09, Jessie Smith ’12.
Guided by Dr. Julie Baldwin and Maggie Walsh, throughout the semester graduate students from Health Education Intervention Methods (PHC# 6507) designed mini-interventions that were implemented during the Girls on the Run 5K. Activities highlighted each of the 5C’s inherent in Girls on the Run: Connection, Competence, Confidence, Character, and Caring and Compassion. Students can be seen in the GOTR photos wearing their USF gear. Great job to everyone!
