Student Service Opportunities and Research Information for the Week of October 28, 2013
Student Service Updates:
The USF Health Service Corps enables our COPH students to volunteer alongside medical, nursing, physical therapy and pharmacy students in a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding and FUN health-related community service activities.

Our COPH students have truly been community service stars during the past two weeks, and have contributed to the following Service Corps events, along with other USF Health students:

October 17th - Give Life Day at the COPH (see photos at Give Life Day)
October 19th – Hillsborough County Head Start Health Festival at Al Lopez park
October 19th - Saturday Safety Day at MOSI (see photos at: MOSISafetyDay)
October 22nd – USF Health Day of Service at Metropolitan Ministries
October 25th – The 17th annual COPH-USF Health Flu Shot Drive (See photos at 2013FlushotDrive)
October 26th – Health fair at Wholesome Community ministries in Wimauma (see photos at WholesomeMinistries)

Halloween/Fall Festival and Dessert Party attheHope Lodge – Comejoin otherUSFHealth students forafunevening withthe residentsatthe American CancerSociety’sBenjamin MendickHope Lodge who are being treatedfor canceratMoffittand otherarea hospitals. This will be a great chance to help the residents at Hope Lodge enjoy Halloween and reminisce about their favorite fall festivities. If you wish to bring a game or crafts activity with a Halloween/fall theme, that will be great too! Students are welcome to wear costumes, too!

Saturday, November 2nd, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Come join our College of Public Health team for the American Heart Association’s 2013 Heart Walk at Raymond James Stadium at 9 am on November 2, 2013. To sign up to participate as a walker all you need to do is to go to our team page at Public Health is Your Health, then click on link Join Our Team. If you are a walker this year and you raise $25 through your individual site, you will receive a free USF Heart Walk T-shirt! If you wish to walk, be sure to sign up on line as a team member, and then Ms. Ellen Kent will send an email to all walkers a few days before the event with details on where our COPH team members will meet up on the day of the walk!
COPH graduate students are encouraged to visit the main COPH Student Research website, with links to: Funding Opportunities; Grant Writing Resources; Research Presentations; andFaculty Research Areas & Expertise.
IMPORTANT: COPH graduate students can now apply for theStudent Honorary Awards for Research and Practice (‘SHARP’) which provides a financial incentive to COPH students to complete a body of work to a stage sufficient for presentation at a regional, national, or international professional meeting/ conference. The next deadline will be Monday, November 4.
COPH students can have their poster presentations for conferences printed free of charge at the COPH center, as long as they use the COPH Vertical Poster Template or the COPH Horizontal Poster Template. If students are presenting oral presentations at conferences, they are asked to use the COPH PowerPoint Template.
