The conference will also serve as a venue for the historical encounter of the U.S. Alabama-based and Panama-based Gorgas Memorial Institutes (GMI). Since the turnover of the GMI from the US to the Panamanian government in 1990, an international meeting of this significance has yet to occur. During the conference, a satellite symposium that highlights the Gorgas historical vaccine research (malaria, dengue, yellow fever) and current vaccine research (pandemic influenza). The legacy of the GMI in vaccine research and training will be presented and discussed.

The Scientific and Advisory Committee invites you to submit an Abstract to the 2nd International Conference Vaccinology in the Tropics: Vaccines in a Globalized World, which will be held in Panama City, Republic of Panama, March 15-17, 2012.

The 2ndInternational Conference Vaccinology in the Tropics is one of the most important meetings that take place in Latin America on Vaccine Research and Development, organized by the University of South Florida. Partners in the conference include the Gorgas Memorial Institute, United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF),the City of Knowledge, the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of Panama, the Center for Development of Advanced Projects of Argentina (CEDEPAP), and the USF Health and Education International Foundation. Representatives from nearly 30 countries provide a unique global networking and educational opportunity.

This year’s program will once again attract physicians (infectious disease, general practitioners, pediatricians, gynecologists, internists, family doctors, etc.), clinical microbiologists, researchers, pharmacists, trainees, nurses, and other health care professionals and graduate students from around the globe. The conference faculty is composed of international experts that will discuss updated epidemiological data, vaccine research and development and future trends on infectious and chronic diseases. Topics include, but are not limited to: dengue fever, malaria, HPV and other STIs, influenza, pneumococcal diseases, national and international immunization programs, myths associated with vaccination, travel medicine vaccines, meningococcal diseases, leishmaniasis, etc.

 

Instructions. You are invited to submit a 250 word, or less, abstract on any of the following vaccine-related topics:

  1. Disease specific vaccines (transmissible or non-transmissible)
  2. Vaccine research and development
  3. Vaccination programs or innovative processes
  4. Public Health and Outreach
  5. Special and vulnerable populations and innovations in vaccination

The abstracts can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese. Abstracts should include Learning Objectives. The poster sessions and exhibits will remain open through the inaugural ceremony and during the course of the conference. Schedules for authors to participate in poster sessions will not conflict with lectures.
