Dr. Vic Velanovich appointed to journal editoral board

Vic Velanovich, MD, professor of surgery and chief of the USF Division of General Surgery, was recently appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, the official journal of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Vic Velanovich

Dr. Velanovich, who joined USF Health in 2011, specializes in minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery, and surgical oncology, with an emphasis on diseases of the breast, esophagus, stomach, biliary tract, and pancreas.

Prior to joining USF, Dr. Velanovich was professor of surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and headed general surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Velanovich earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his medical degree from Wayne State University. He conducted his general surgery residency at the Letterman Army Medical Center in the Presidio of San Francisco, CA, and the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 10 years.

At USF, Dr. Velanovich holds USF’s Vivian Clark Reeves/Joy McCann Culverhouse Endowed Chair for Digestive Disorders and Pancreatic Cancer.  He holds hospital appointments at Tampa General Hospital and Florida Hospital.
