COPH’s Dr. William Sappenfield earns March of Dimes’ highest volunteer award

USF researcher William Sappenfield, MD, MPH, recently earned March of Dimes’ highest volunteer award, the Elaine Whitelaw Volunteer Service Award.

Dr. Sappenfield, professor in the College of Public Health, chair of the Department of Community and Family Health, and director of the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies, was unanimously selected to receive the award for his critical role in a program aimed at decreasing elective births, called the 39-Weeks Quality Improvement Initiative.
