USF Health faculty among USF’s best, honored with Outstanding Faculty Awards

Several USF Health faculty members were recognized for their outstanding efforts at the 2015 USF Outstanding Faculty Awards held in March.

The annual event honors the select few who have achieved significant career milestones and professional recognitions by many of the world’s top scholarly and research organizations.

Along with their peers across USF, faculty from USF Health were acknowledged by USF President Judy Genshaft and Provost and Executive Vice President Ralph Wilcox, PhD. They include:

 

Elected Members of the National Academies

USF is home to only four with this distinction, three of whom are members of the Institute of Medicine and work at USF Health.

Barbara Hansen, PhD, director of Obesity, Diabetes and Aging Research Center and a professor of internal medicine and pediatrics.

Charles Lockwood, MD, senior vice president for USF Health, dean of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, and professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

William Spellacy, MD, Distinguished University Professor at USF, and former chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.

 

American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellows

Barbara Hansen, PhD, director of Obesity, Diabetes and Aging Research Center and a professor of internal medicine and pediatrics.

Stephen Liggett, MD, vice dean for research and a professor of both internal medicine and molecular pharmacology and physiology.

Dave Morgan, PhD, chief executive officer and executive director of the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute and Distinguished Professor of molecular pharmacology and physiology. American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellows.

 

Lemelson Invention Ambassador

Paul Sanberg, PhD, DSc, Distinguished University Professor at USF, senior vice president for Research, Innovation and economic development, executive director of the Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, and president of USF Research Foundation.

 

Core Fulbright U.S. Scholars

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program provides awardees with the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, and find solutions to shared international concerns.

Eric Storch, PhD, professor of pediatrics and psychiatry in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and professor of health policy and management in the USF College of Public Health.

 

Florida Inventors Hall of Fame

Shyam Mohapatra, PhD, Distinguished USF Health Professor, associate dean in the USF College of Pharmacy, professor of pediatrics and molecular medicine in the USF Health College of Public Health, and is a member of the inaugural group inducted in 2014 into the Florida Inventors’ Hall of Fame.

 

Distinguished University Professors

Russell Kirby, PhD, Distinguished University Professor at USF, professor of community and family health in the USF College of Public Health, professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and obstetrics and gynecology in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.
