Dr. Jamie Morano To Take On National VA Leadership Role



Jamie P. Morano, MD, MPH, FACP, FIDSA, associate professor in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases & International Medicine, and director of the Infectious Disease Program at the James A Haley VA, has been promoted to a national VA role. She will serve as Region 3 / VISN 8 Project Lead of the National HIV, Hepatitis Specialty Access Telehealth Resource (H-STAR) Center within the National VA HIV, Hepatitis, and Related Conditions (HHRC) Program. Dr. Morano has developed and expanded infectious disease video telehealth services both within the James A Haley VA since 2015 and the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough since 2020.

In her national VA leadership role in HIV, Hepatitis Telehealth and Veterans Rural Health Centers, she will work to establish regional centers of excellence for HIV, Hepatitis, and STI treatment and prevention. As project lead of the HIV Telehealth Collaborative Care (TCC) Program, Veterans Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC), Office of Rural Health, Dr. Morano will also mentor nine national VA healthcare systems to reconfigure their outpatient HIV services to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic with the latest evidence based clinical video telehealth services and support networks.

Dr. Morano will continue to serve on national VA committees with the Office of Connected Care for beta testing of new telehealth platforms and review of written telehealth policies as well as continue her six year service as a trusted member of the National VA HIV Technical Advisory Board for the HHRC Program to inform national policy.
