USF Health sports medicine expert Dr. Irene Davis named president-elect for national board

Irene Davis, PhD, PT, FACSM, FAPTA, FASB, was recently elected president-elect of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Dr. Davis, who joined USF Health earlier this year as professor in the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, will begin her one-year term as ACSM president-elect in June 2022, and then go on to serve as president of the organization for one year starting in June 2023.

Prior to joining USF Health, Dr. Davis was the founding director of the Spaulding National Running Center in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts, and a second bachelor’s in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida.  She earned her Master’s degree in Biomechanics from the University of Virginia, and her PhD in Biomechanics from Pennsylvania State University.  She is a Professor Emeritus in Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware, where she served on the faculty for more than 20 years.
