MCOM student earns prestigious university honor

Zeegan George, USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, class of 2024.

Zeegan George,  USF Health Morsani College of Medicine class of 2024, was named a 2022 Golden Bull Award recipient at the Tampa Campus.

George is involved with several student groups at MCOM.  He leads the MCOM Council on Student Diversity and Inclusion, an interprofessional team of students across MCOM, where he works with students and administration to advance evidence-based and equitable changes to curriculum and policy.  He is also president of the Neurosurgery Interest Group where he has spent the last two years constructing a pipeline that ensures medical students have the necessary interprofessional experience, research, and networking opportunities to match successfully into the field when they apply to residency programs for further training after medical school.  He continuously researches medical education with the hope of addressing health disparities, the shortage of primary care physicians, and systemic inequities in medicine.

Considered one of the highest honors for students at the University of South Florida, the Golden Bull Awards are given annually to 30 total undergraduate and graduate students across all USF campuses who encompass the spirit of the university and have demonstrated its values.  Those values include:

  • Leadership within the community.
  • Engagement with the community and public service.
  • Success and academic achievement through research, pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking skills.
  • Enhanced global experience and understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity.
  • Development of personal and professional potential.
  • Demonstrated commitment to respect, integrity and civility.
