The Republican National Convention comes to Tampa Aug. 27-30. With Tampa Bay on an international media stage during the RNC, we’ll be seizing the opportunity to show off how USF Health makes a difference across our region and state.
Front Row Tampa Bay features USF Health Innovation
USF Health – its research, programs and innovative spirit – will be featured on Thursday, Aug. 30, as part of a series of University of South Florida segments that will be shown during four days of programming by Front Row Tampa Bay, an initiative of the Tampa Bay Partnership.
Studio guests to be interviewed by host Kathy Fountain will include Dr. Henry Rodriguez, medical director of the USF Diabetes Center; Dr. Laura Haubner, medical director of the USF Health CAMLS Virtual Patient Care Center; Dr. Stephen Klasko, CEO of USF Health and dean of the Morsani College of Medicine; and Dr. Amanda Smith, medical director of the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute.

USF Health experts available to discuss RNC-related health policy issues
Up to 15,000 journalists – local, national, and international — are expected to gather in the Tampa Bay area to cover the RNC.
Jodi Ray, project director for Florida Covering Kids and Families at USF’s Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies, and Jay Wolfson, DrPH, JD, Distinguished Service Professor of Public Health and Medicine and Associate Vice President of Health Law, Policy and Safety at USF Health, are among the experts who will be on hand to provide comment for reporters seeking expertise on healthcare policy and reform issues.
Where to Park?
The first week of USF classes (starting August 27) coincides with RNC week and the convergence of both could create some disruption for those studying, working or seeking care at USF Health. Whether you’re a student, employee or patient, here’s some tips for planning ahead:
– Parking on campus will be tough. Best location for USF Health might be the Laurel Garage, next to the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare. USF Parking Services won’t ticket employees or patients that week in “S” sections on levels 4, 5, and 6 of the garage. For patients with appointments at the Morsani Center, valet parking ($2 fee) is an option. Students will find there’s a quick Bullrunner shuttle bus from the Laurel garage to the colleges of medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health. Check it out: It’s a lot easier than circling the other parking lots. A map to the USF Laurel Garage at the Morsani Center is here: http://health.usf.edu/myhealthcare/patient_care_sites.htm
– If you work on Davis Islands (the USF Health South Tampa Center and 17 Davis), please check with your supervisor or department. Some patient appointments may be moved to the Morsani Center on the USF north campus, and other clinics may be limited. All patients seen at the USF Health South Tampa Center (next to Tampa General) should confirm their appointments before driving to Tampa General. TGH has a driving map of suggested routes for patients to reach Davis Islands, here: http://www.tgh.org/republican-national-convention-information.asp
