USF medical student featured on Super Bowl Pregame Show, NBC’s “Today” Show

USF Health Morsani College of Medicine student Ed Woodward was featured in segments during Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX pregame show and Saturday morning’s “Today” Show, both on NBC.

An NBC crew visited USF earlier this month to interview Woodward for the Super Bowl pregame story as a Tillman Military Scholar for a segment about Pat Tillman, Marie Tillman, The Pat Tillman Foundation and the Tillman Military Scholars program.

Woodward, a medically retired U.S. Air Force Captain, is a first-year medical student at the Morsani College of Medicine and the president of the Class of 2018. He previously earned a master’s degree in medical sciences from USF. He plans to specialize in ophthalmalogy.

Woodward lost his twin brother, Gene Woodward, a medical student at USF who was killed in an automobile accident involving a drunk driver in 2000. A few years later, the former Air Force fighter pilot was grounded by a stroke. Emerging from rehabilitation, he struggled with depression before finding a new goal to embrace after a heartfelt conversation with his grandfather of following in his brother’s footsteps to earn a medical degree.
