Maximize Research Support Salary when writing NIH grant budgets

The MCOM Research Office is often asked how to write budgets for NIH grants with significant “% effort” by both basic scientists and clinicians. Since the latter receive some of their compensation from the practice plan, there are misconceptions about how to capture, adequately account for, and appropriately compensate, their efforts on a USF-based grant.

I want to remind investigators and administrators that this policy (termed the Research Support Salary or RSS) is in place and can be found here.  If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact my office for assistance.

Sincerely,

Stephen Liggett, MD
Vice Dean for Research
Professor of Medicine, Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology
