Meet the Dean: Public Health’s Donna Petersen

Dean Donna Petersen, ScD, loves every aspect of public health and encourages the community to be more involved in education. Learn more about Dean Petersen and find out about her ability to compose, not only music, but also the illustrious tapestry that is the USF College of Public Health.

Dean Donna Petersen joined the USF College of Public Health in 2004, when she visited the University of South Florida Tampa campus and just knew this was the place for her to land. Now, leading one of the best college of public health programs in the country, Dr. Petersen encourages the community to learn more about how public health affects us all.

Dr. Petersen is also currently the interim dean at the USF College of Nursing and a USF Health senior associate vice president. In her time here at the university, she has excelled at helping unite the four colleges and two schools that make up USF Health. Her leadership and ability to work with multiple disciplines makes her the perfect fit for an interdisciplinary environment.

Dr. Petersen is a passionate reader and implores her students to read more, reminding them that she reads all their papers when she is their professor, as writing is one of the most important ways to communicate their essential scientific research and discoveries.
