Are you seeing “double” in your selfies? … If so we have your treatment!! We are so excited to announce that we are offering Kybella here at USF Health Cosmetic and Laser Center.

What does Kybella Treat?

Patients often ask how to get rid of the dreaded “double chin”. Men and women alike can be genetically predisposed to having a collection of fat in this area. This product specifically treats that small collection of fat under the chin.

What is Kybella?

Kybella® is a non-human non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid that is indication for treatment of submental fullness or “double-chin”. Deoxycholic acid aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When this product is injected into the submental area (beneath the chin), it causes lysis or death of the fat cells therefore destroying their ability to store fat.  Once the fat is destroyed it typically does not return. However, there are other reasons for the fullness to form below the chin such as significant weight gain, thyroid disorders, swollen lymph nodes and this product does not treat those concerns.

How many treatments do you need?

The number of treatments varies per patient and is determined by your cosmetic provider. However, most patients need 2-3 treatments spaced 8 weeks apart.

What is the procedure like?

During your appointment your cosmetic provider will assess the treatment area to determine the volume of product needed and to assure that you are a good candidate. After assessing the area they will draw some anatomical markings that will come off easily after the procedure. A topical numbing cream may be placed prior to your procedure for your comfort although most patients tolerate the procedure very well with minimal discomfort. The product is injected similar to Botox into the skin with small needles. Once the product is injected, you may feel a slight tingling sensation as the product begins to work. You may also feel a tightening sensation as the treatment area begins to swell.

What will I need to do after the procedure?

Following the procedure, you may experience swelling and redness in the area for up to a week. It is not uncommon for this to be the worst in the first 24-48 hours. Using ice during this time will help with the swelling and the tightening sensation. Your cosmetic provider will give you detailed instructions on how to care for the area after the procedure.

Don’t delay, book your appointment today to see if you are a good candidate.  As always, only trust your skin to the experts here at the USF Health Cosmetic and Laser Center … where beautiful skin happens. 813-259-8694
