Five reasons to name a space at USF Health in Water Street Tampa

Your Name Here Classroom imageAs the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute prepares to open to students, faculty and researchers in January 2020 (with the Taneja College of Pharmacy to follow in Fall 2021), now is the best time to make a gift to name a space in the building.

So why name a space at USF’s new building downtown?

  • To impact the education of your future doctors. The walls are up and MD classes will start in January, and we’re still outfitting the spaces with the necessary technology to educate the physicians who will be caring for you and your family in 10 years. By relocating closer to our primary teaching hospital (TGH) in a new state-of-the-art facility, we’re attracting the most highly qualified students and medical residents to Tampa Bay. Gifts from donors like you are making this possible without us raising student tuition.
  • To find ways to prevent, treat and possibly cure the #1 killer of Americans. No other health condition kills as many Americans as heart disease. But research against this silent killer lags far behind other diseases. USF is working to change that, and by doing so we’ll not only improve the physical health of our world, but our region’s economic health as well. By bringing top cardiologists and NIH-funded researchers to Tampa, we’re improving the quality of heart care and creating an economic impact of more than $56 million a year.
“USF’s missions of research and education should be enhanced with new research labs in the downtown USF medical building to help eliminate or improve major diseases such as heart disease and cancer,” said David Vesely, MD, PhD, who named the auditorium lobby. “I hope that having a Heart Institute in the new medical school building will help decrease the number of heart attacks, which took both of my parents’ lives.”
  • To leave a visible legacy for you or your organization. Naming a room shows the thousands of students, health care professionals and community who use the space that you care about making a difference through high-quality education and research. It shows that you are invested in their future, as well as the quality of care that they will provide the patients they serve. Each donor’s name will be displayed in their space, along with a short description about the donor or why they chose to support USF.
  • To honor or memorialize someone you care about. Individuals or groups may work together to donate funds to honor or memorialize a mentor or loved one. Their names and descriptions will be posted in the spaces they name, and generations of students and researchers will learn about them as they use the space.
  • To encourage others to follow your example. By showing others that you gave to support public education and research, you will inspire others to follow suit. Whether it’s your contemporary peers or students who want to “pay it forward” when they are able, you will contribute to a culture of philanthropy where generosity is contagious.
