Erica Anstey, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Community and Family Health, and Aimee Eden, a dual-degree student in Anthropology and Public Health (MPH and PhD in Anthro) have been elected to the Hillsborough County Breastfeeding Task Force (HCBFTF) Board as co-committee chairs of the Data Quality and Research Committee.  The mission of the HCBFTF is to support, promote and protect breastfeeding in Hillsborough County. Research Updates We have updated the Student Honorary Awards for Research and Practice (‘SHARP’) guidelines for 2011- 2012, see http://health.usf.edu/publichealth/officeresearch/Student+Honorary+Award.htm and application form at:  http://health.usf.edu/publichealth/officeresearch/pdf/SharpApplication.doc.  The purpose of the SHARP award is to provide a financial incentive to COPH students to complete a body of work to a stage sufficient for presentation at a regional, national, or international professional meeting/ conference. On Saturday, August 20th,  a number of our NEW COPH graduate students participated along with other USF health students in the Back to School health fair in Ruskin, as shown in the Picasa photo album at   https://picasaweb.google.com/112065141976787365445/Backtoschoolaug2011?authkey=Gv1sRgCKvp06W1_b7pSw#slideshow/5643120770197380194 . COPH Student Develops Vaccination Toolkit

Bryant Smith (EPB) completed his summer FE with the Palm Beach County Health Department. Mr. Smith created a vaccination toolkit and “Adult Vaccine Provision Information Statement” (AVPIS) which has been adopted by the county health department. It will be presented as a poster at the National Vaccine Conference in Washington, DC later this year. Congratulations!

This past week, a number of our USF COPH students (and staff too) participated in Service Corps events targeted towards kids!
