Thomas Bernard evaluates heat stress while wearing chemical protective clothing

| Current Funding

The decommissioning of chemical weapons requires specialized protective clothing.  A side effect is that the clothing adds to the heat stress burden.  Dr. Bernard has a contract with URS and DOD to evaluate the degree of heat stress for four configurations.

Dr. Michele Fletcher will examine the effects of a full-face respirator on heat stress as part of her MSPH thesis.  Ryan Guerrina will use study data for his MPH special project in the dual degree program with nursing.  Specially, he will look at the effects of different configurations of the clothing to point to one that provides adequate chemical protection with the least heat stress burden.
