Meg Comins Presents at Health Disparity Conference

| Monday Letter, Students

Meg Comins, doctoral student in the Department of Health Policy and Management, presented a poster titled ‘The Demography and Treatment Cost of Black Stroke Inpatients, co-authored with Dr. Dawood H. Sultan, at the Xavier University Fourth Health Disparity Conference in New Orleans on March 27, 2011. The presentation showed the disproportionately high number of young Black stroke patients and examined  the costs of treating them. These dollars can be better spent on preventive care which is a target of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). This study creates a baseline to compare changes pre- and post-ACA implementation. The travel was funded by the Student Honorary Award for Research and Practice, and by the Department of Health Policy and Management. The keynote speaker for this event was Linda Rae Murray, MD, PhD, President of the American Public Health Association.
