Recent Service Events Update

Thanks to our COPH and other USF Health student volunteers, a number of high school students have learned about public health and environmental health in the past two weeks.   

On July 11 and 18, the following USF COPH students/alumni contributed to the panel discussions for high school students participating in the Summer GAP program:  Cesar Marin (undergrad public health student) Dr. Erlande Omisca (alumna); Belinda-Rose James; and Dorothy Zeviar.  See photos at

Moreover, on July 21st, the BEST program high students learned about health careers from Cesar Marin and Dr. Erlande Omisca, were introduced to global public health projects by Natasha Smith and Curtis Devetter, and participated in lab tours led by Adam Marty, Patrick Rodriguez and Brian Grace. Photos can be viewed at:

We have some great upcoming events this week, for which we are still looking for volunteers!

Thursday evening, July 28th, 5:30- 8 pm Shriner’s Camp Care A Lot Carnival at Rotary Camp Florida in Brandon.  USF Health students can sign up with Raymond Decuba at  with International Health Service  Collaborative (IHSC)  Up to 20 student volunteers can help out with this fantastic carnival!  

Saturday July 30th and Sunday July 31st :   All About Kids Back to School Bash at Tampa Convention Center (see USF Health students can help Safe Kids with fitting bike helmets and leading  the bike/pedestrian safety  stations. Students can sign up with Sara VanWyk at with Maternal & Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO).   We have slots remaining for these two shifts:  Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm shift and Saturday from 11:30 am to 4pm.
