USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center ranked #3 in nation and #1 in region

| COPH Home Page Feed, Monday Letter, OSHA, Take Note!

The USF OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center maintained its position at number three among all OTI Education Centers in the nation. It also preserved its number one spot in OSHA Region IV, which includes five OTI Education Centers across the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.

“I attribute the success of our center to the quality of our courses, which is directly impacted by our knowledgeable instructional and office staff,” said USF OTI Education Center Program Manager Robert Nesbit.

The OSHA Office of Training and Education Programs determines rank by calculating the total number of students trained by each of the 24 OTI Education Centers throughout fiscal year 2012. Rank also takes into account the total number of courses offered, average class size, total contact hours and average hours per course. As of June 30, 2012, the USF OTI Education Center trained 1,903 students through 102 courses, with an average class size of 19 students. Only the University of Texas-Arlington and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service ranked higher than USF.

According to the OSHA Directorate of Training and Education, “The OTI Education Centers are a national network of non-profit organizations authorized by OSHA to deliver occupational safety and health training to public and private sector workers, supervisors, and employers on behalf of OSHA.”

Founded in 2003, the USF OTI Education Center is dedicated to the goal of improving workplace safety and health through voluntary training and education at its headquarters in Wesley Chapel, Fla. and throughout OSHA Region IV. Course offerings include topics such as record keeping, machine guarding, confined space entry, electrical standards and fall arrest systems among many others.
