Alicia Rossiter receives Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program Scholarship

University of South Florida College of Nursing DNP student, Alicia G. Rossiter, MSN, FNP, PNP-BC, was selected to receive the 2012-2014 Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program Scholarship. Rossiter is awarded a total of $10,000 in funding, a total amount of $5,000 per year for two academic years. The grant is provided by Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence to USF College of Nursing to support doctoral students.

 “I was honored to be selected as a Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar and look forward to furthering my research regarding women veterans’ health issues with a focus on military sexual trauma,” Rossiter said.

Rossiter is currently an Instructor and Coordinator of Graduate Simulation at the USF College of Nursing. She has over 21 years in the military serving four years on active duty in the U.S. Army, and 17 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves where she is the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the U.S. Air Force Chief Nurse and adjunct faculty at the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences.

“One of the reasons why I chose the DNP program at USF was the academic and practice partnerships and the research being conducted at the College of Nursing regarding military medicine and veteran health issues,” Rossiter said.

As a Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar, Rossiter will have the opportunity to attend the Jonas Center leadership and policy expertise development conference for scholars in Washington D.C. During this time, she will focus on a research project about Women Veterans Health Issues with a focus on Military Sexual Trauma and PTSD, disordered eating, and sleep.

Rossiter is currently a co-primary investigator on two projects studying Women Veterans—one looking at the factors associated with the rising divorce rates among women in the military, and the second looking at the effects of sexual trauma and assault on the health of women veterans.

Jonas Center For Nursing Excellence, funded by Barbara Jonas Family Fund, is an organization that offers advance scholarships focusing on leadership, innovation, and partnerships across the philanthropic, business, policy, and education sectors.
