Carly Paterson Receives Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program Scholarship

PhD student and Research Associate at the University of South Florida College of Nursing, Carly Paterson, received the 2012-2014 Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program Scholarship. Paterson is awarded a total of $20,000 in funding, a total amount of $10,000 for two academic years.

As a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar, Paterson will have the opportunity to interact with expert scientists and researchers at the College of Nursing, in other areas of USF Health and at multiple clinical partner facilities. Paterson will also have regular meetings with her mentor, Cecile A. Lengacher, RN, PhD, FAAN, Professor and Director of the BS-PhD Program at the USF College of Nursing. Paterson also serves as Research Associate for Dr. Lengacher’s NIH-funded R01 bio-behavioral “MBSR Symptom Cluster Trial.”

Paterson will also have weekly meetings with her mentor, Cecile A. Lengacher, RN, PhD, FAAN, Professor and Director of the BS-PhD Program at the USF College of Nursing, to assess progress and develop plans for future activities based on the USF College of Nursing Jonas Scholars mentoring plan. Paterson is the Research Associate for Dr. Lengacher’s NIH-funded R01 bio-behavioral “MBSR Symptom Cluster Trial.”

“I am honored to be the recipient of the 2012-2014 Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program Scholarship and I truly appreciate the USF College of Nursing for providing me with this opportunity,” Paterson said. “I look forward to developing valuable leadership skills through this scholar program that will be essential to my future success in the faculty role.”

Paterson’s research focuses on addressing unmet needs for symptom relief in younger women with breast cancer and bio-behavioral intervention research that can assist younger women with cancer.
