College Celebrates October as Diversity Month

October is Diversity month as the College of Nursing and we look forward to the third annual College of Nursing Diversity Celebration on Wednesday & Friday, October 14 & 16, 2009. As part of our Diversity Celebration, the College of Nursing Diversity Committee has invited two distinguished guests.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 9 am-1 pm, MDN 2005


Dr. Patrick C. Coggins, PhD, JD, LLD (Hon), Jessie Ball DuPont Endowed Chair Professor of Multicultural Education and Social Justice, Stetson University will be conducting a diversity workshop at CON, his second year appearance. Faculty, Staff, Students and Preceptors are invited. CEU credits offered. Bagels, Coffee and light lunch will be provided.

Distinguished Guest Diversity Lecture, “African American Women and Breast Cancer: The Movement Beyond Fear, Fatalism and Silence”.

Janice Phillips, PhD, RN, FAAN Dr. Phillips is a Research Associate/Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine at University of Chicago Medical Center, Illinois.

Co-sponsored by the USF-Moffitt Center to Address Cancer Health Disparities

On Friday, October 16th the Celebration will include cultural exhibits and presentations and an International Potluck Lunch beginning at 11:30AM in the Gathering Space.  There will also be a contest for “Best Traditional Attire” with a “parade of participants in attire of their State/Country of origin as well as a “Fall in My Hometown” slideshow in the Gathering Space in honor of the Third Diversity Celebration.
