Dean Morrison-Beedy Discusses Growth and Collaboration in Tampa Bay Medical News
USF College of Nursing Dean Dianne Morrison-Beedy is featured in the August issue of Tampa Bay Medical News.
New USF Dean of Nursing Sees Growth in Collaboration
“I knew this was an outstanding college,” said Morrison-Beedy, who had previously been a professor and the assistant dean for research at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. “But what surprised me is the level of cooperation, both within the college and with our partners in the College of Medicine and in fact within all of USF Health.”
Nursing, by its nature, is a cooperative profession, and nurses have to act as partners with other healthcare professionals. But at many universities, various colleges and departments within the healthcare fields see each other as rivals, she said.
The sense of cooperation she has experienced at USF is almost unparalleled, she said, and that leads to better research and better education. It’s something that many universities aspire to, but few succeed as well as USF does.
