Motivational “Women-Only” Cardiac Rehab Improves Symptoms of Depression
A study led by College of Nursing researcher Theresa Beckie, PhD, was presented November 17th at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2009 in Orlando. The study, by Dr. Beckie and Jason Beckstead, PhD, found that symptoms of depression improved among women with coronary heart disease who participated in a motivational cardiac rehabilitation program geared specifically to women.
The study findings are among the results of a five-year randomized National Institute of Nursing Research clinical trial led by Dr. Beckie – the first in the U.S. to study cardiac rehab for women only.
