Dr. Cecile Lengacher named APOS fellow

Cecile Lengacher, PhD, professor and pre-doctoral fellowship program director at the USF College of Nursing, was selected to become fellow of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS).

Dr. Lengacher received this recognition for her outstanding contributions to the science and practice of psychosocial oncology. She will officially receive the award on Feb. 16 at the 2017 Class of APOS Fellows conference.

“It is a great honor to be recognized with this award,” said Dr. Lengacher. “APOS has provided me the opportunity to stay professionally involved with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues who are dedicated to psycho-oncology.”

Dr. Lengacher has transformed oncology through her life-changing research and education for many decades. She is currently working on a $2.8 million grant from National Institutes of Health to study mindfulness-based stress reduction for breast cancer (MBSR) (BC) to determine if the intervention improves objective and subjective cognitive functioning among breast cancer survivors.

APOS’s purpose is to bring together professionals working in the psychological, behavioral and social aspects of cancer to advance the science and practice of psychosocial care for people affected by cancer.
