Dr. Cecile Lengacher presents on mindfulness-based stress reduction at NCI conference

University of South Florida College of Nursing Professor and Program Director for BS-PhD Program, Cecile A. Lengacher, RN, PhD, FAAN, presented at the 2013 National Cancer Institute (NCI) Invitational Conference on Sept. 20, 2013 in Rockville, Maryland.

The NCI Conference, titled “Applying Evidence from economic Evaluations to Translate Cancer Survivorship Research into Care”, was held to explore ideas about cancer research, education and economic analysis, and how to turn cancer survivorship interventions into care.

Dr. Lengacher took part in a two-part presentation with USF and Moffitt Cancer Center Health Economist, Benjamin Craig, PhD. They presented on “Cost-effectiveness of a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction MBSR (BC) Program for Improving Quality of Life in Breast Cancer Survivors,” a study they co-authored together at USF as part of the College of Nursing’s Center for Living with Chronic Illness.

Dr. Craig presented during the first part of the presentation focusing on “NCI-Funded Economic Evaluations of Behavioral Interventions for Cancer Survivors.” While Dr. Lengacher presented during the second part of the presentation focusing on “Incorporating economic analyses into a behavioral intervention: lessons learned and future directions.”
