Dr. John Clochesy discusses eSMART technology on Bay News 9 and USF Oracle
University of South Florida College of Nursing Professor and Faculty Mentorship Program Director, John Clochesy, PhD, RN, went on several news outlets to discuss an electronic self-management resource training (eSMART) platform he created with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to help teach people how to better communicate with their healthcare providers. The technology is like a video game for your health.

During his interviews on Bay News 9 and USF Oracle, Dr. Clochesy highlighted the benefits of eSMART. He also mentioned that the technology was recently presented at the Technology Innovations for Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders conference hosted by the White House in Washington D.C.

“eSMART is designed to empower people from medically and socially disadvantaged groups to more effectively self-manage their chronic illness, including negotiating for what they want and need,” said Dr. Clochesy on Bay News 9’s Health Segment hosted by Dr. Randy Shuck. “The system helps people interact with their healthcare provider as realistically as possible. Participants were amazed at how much they learned during this virtual experience, and how real the entire process was.”
