Marian Hardwick Receives Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program Scholarship
University of South Florida College of Nursing BS-PhD student, Marian J. Hardwick, RN, was selected to receive the 2012-2014 Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program Scholarship. Hardwick is awarded a total of $10,000 in funding, a total amount of $5,000 per year for two academic years. The grant is provided by Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence to USF College of Nursing to support doctoral students.
“Before the Jonas Veterans Healthcare scholarship, my soul was running on empty,” Hardwick said. “With it, I am now having the drive to succeed with unlimited support. The Veterans Healthcare Program gave back to me through this scholarship and I expect to give back to them through my research.”
As a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar, Hardwick will have the opportunity to attend the Jonas Center leadership and policy expertise development conference for scholars in Washington D.C. She will also have regular meetings with her faculty mentor, Kevin Kip, PhD, FAHA, Associate Professor and Executive Director for the Research Center at USF College of Nursing.
“Dr. Kip will advise me in every capacity of my dissertation and assist me in choosing the correct sleep measurement tool for my dissertation,” Hardwick said.
Hardwick’s research focuses on the study of the interrelationship and pathophysiology of comorbid PTSD and sleep dysfunction, and hopes the scholarship will help expand her research.
“This is a huge accomplishment towards my doctoral studies,” Hardwick said. “I am honored I was chosen as a recipient.”
