Trailblazer Spotlight: Jean Vaccaro, College of Nursing Manager of Fiscal and Business Administration

Jean Vaccaro has dedicated most of her career to the College of Nursing. This year, she celebrates 22 years at the college, now working as the manager of fiscal and business administration.

“I learn something new every day,” she said.

Over the years, she has watched the college grow and transform into what it is today.

Previously, Vaccaro worked in customer service and accounting in South Florida at JM Family Enterprises. Afterwards, she worked a similar role at Florida Power and Light. In 1992, her role there changed during hurricane season. She found herself working a ‘Post-hurricane Experience’ for displaced employees. Vaccaro ended up being a light for many families that lost their homes.

In 1999, she moved to Tampa and began her career at the college. In 2005, she graduated from USF Muma College of Business.

Looking back, she says she is fortunate to have spent most of her career at USF.

“I learn something new every day,” she said. “I hope to continue working here at the college, helping others and learning!”

Those who know Vaccaro frequently describe her as hard working, kind and reliable. She is a jack of all trades for the college, often being called on to assist with a variety of projects that she accepts with a smile.

“Jean is the true hero of the MDN Building,” said Jason Hepburn, College of Nursing administrative specialist.

Vaccaro said she enjoys being able to mentor and use her experience to help others who are just getting started. Her advice to students: “Don’t give up! Soon you will be that student graduating in the pictures on the wall!”
