Stark Receives Accolades from Hillsborough County Health Department
Instructor Laurie Stark, RN, MS, MSN, received prestigious accolades from the Hillsborough County Health Department for her outstanding accomplishments and service to the organization going above and beyond the normal realm of duties.
Recently, members of the Hillsborough County Oral Health coalition met with Plant City officials to advocate for water fluoridation, an initiative that will impact over 36,000 Plant City residents on the city water system. Plant City commissioners voted to adopt water fluoridation for their residents. Plant City Commissioners agreed to adopt this community-based public health intervention and to pursue grant monies from the state water fluoridation program.
“Laurie Stark contributed to our water fluoridation initiative by inspiring her nursing students to write letters of support.” said Kevin Argote, from the Hillsborough County Health Department. “She took it upon herself in her Community Health class to initiate the letter writing campaign to support water fluoridation in Plant City. She had over 120 letters submitted by her class. This initiative is a fine example when communities work together with various local agencies to bring health prevention to their residents. Through collaboration and local support, we can keep our kids and families healthy.”
