TATRC Praises the USF College of Nursing’s RESTORE LIVES

The University of South Florida College of Nursing’s Military Liaison, Carrie Elk, PhD, LMHC, Associate Professor and Research Center Executive Director, Kevin Kip, PhD, FAHA, and Edward Hickling, PsyD, Co-Principal Investigator, received positive reviews for the RESTORE LIVES Center after an in-progress evaluation at the Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) at Fort Detrick, Md.

“TATRC was pleased with the Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for psychological trauma in veterans and the Nursing Health Initiative for Empowering Women research studies,” Dr. Elk said. “All of us here the College of Nursing couldn’t be happier.”

ART and Empowering Women’s Veterans studies are two of the five sub-studies of RESTORE LIVES, which the College of Nursing established to develop evidence-based methods to help veterans and service members overcome psychological stress and other health problems resulting from combat operations overseas.

Through a grant from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command & TATRC, the RESTORE LIVES Center includes a total of five sub-studies, which aim to help improve the emotional health and quality of life among service members with disabilities, develop and evaluate treatments to complement services to the military provided by the VA Healthcare System, TRICARE and the conventional healthcare system.
