Thank you from the USF College of Nursing – Veterans Week Events

The University of South Florida College of Nursing would like to recognize all of the nation’s veterans, military and their families as Veteran’s Day approaches. In addition, we recognize all of our USF College of Nursing faculty, students, staff, alumni, & friends who are veterans. From all of us, to all of you, a heartfelt thank you.

We would also like to remind everyone of some Veterans Week events:

Thursday, November 8th  – USF Veterans Outreach Expo ALN Courtyard from 10:00am – 2:00pm: Veterans, Active duty members, and veteran’s dependents are invited to explore you VA benefit option VA benefit options at the Expo. Learn more about job resources, health benefits, and other benefits. Plus get a free flu shot! USF Nursing’s Alicia Rossiter, MSN, ARNP, FNP, PNP-BC, Coordinator, Graduate Simulation, and Allyson Radford, PhD Student will be manning a booth this year.

Saturday, November 10th  – Come on out and support your USF College of Nursing Team in the Tampa Bay Heart Walk at Raymond James Stadium. Festivities begin at 8:00 a.m. Walk begins at 9:00 a.m. Access to the parking lot is off of Himes Avenue and Tampa Bay Boulevard. Please arrive early as parking fills up quickly! Cheer on the USF Bull Nurses Team captained by Jason Link, Support Specialist – Information Technology.

Monday, November 12th  – The nation recognizes the Veterans’ Day Holiday.  USF Holiday – No Classes! Please remember those who have served to protect our freedoms, and let those veterans in your lives know how much you appreciate them!

Make plans to attend the Veterans Day Parade at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, Tampa FL beginning at 10:00 am. Alicia Rossiter, MSN, ARNP, FNP, PNP-BC, Coordinator, Graduate Simulation will represent the College of Nursing in the reviewing stand. Come out and celebrate! See the AVAST color Guard, Freedom High School, Band, Krewe of Saint Yago, AMVETS Riders, Antique Car Show and much more.

Tuesday, November 13thNursing education and research designed to meet the needs of veterans, service members and their families will be the focus when the nation’s top nurse educators and scientists gather Nov. 13 in Tampa, FL, for a conference hosted by the University of South Florida College of Nursing. The first annual JOINING FORCES TO RESTORE LIVES: Nursing Education and Research in Veterans Health conference will be held at the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) in downtown Tampa. The conference is part of USF’s commitment to support the Joining Forces campaign, a comprehensive national initiative to mobilize all sectors of society to give service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned. Keynote speaker James L. Harris, DSN, APRN-BC, MBA, CNL, FAAN, deputy chief nursing officer, Office of Nursing Services, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Washington, D.C, will discuss linking nursing education and research to the Joining Forces initiatives.
