USF Nursing awarded Jonas Scholar grant

University of South Florida College of Nursing was awarded a $60,000 grant from Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans’ Healthcare to support six doctoral nursing students in 2014.

The grant will provide funding for two PhD Jonas Nurse Leader Scholars, two PhD Jonas Veterans healthcare Scholars, and two DNP Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholars. USF College of Nursing will select the students in June, 2014.

“This is a great achievement for USF College of Nursing,” said Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, Senior Associate Vice President of USF Health, and Dean of the College of Nursing. “The continuous support from the Jonas Center allows our students to transform healthcare and transform lives locally, regionally and nationally.”

USF College of Nursing Jonas Scholars join nearly 600 future nurse educators and leaders at 110 schools supported by Jonas Center programs, the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program and Jonas Veterans Healthcare Program. These programs are made possible by grants for the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence funded by the Jonas Family Foundation.

As a recipient of the Jonas Center grant, USF College of Nursing is part of a national effort to stem the faculty shortage and prepare future nurses as United States’ healthcare system continues to evolve. The Jonas Center, a leading philanthropic funder for nursing, is addressing a critical need in professional RN programs.

Munro, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at University of South Florida College of Nursing. “The Jonas Center’s generous support contributes to the development of the Jonas Scholars as the leaders of tomorrow.”

In 2013, four USF College of Nursing graduate students received support from the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans’ Healthcare. The four Jonas Scholar recipients included graduate students Carly Paterson, BS, RN, Marian J. Hardwick, BS, RN, Richard Huff, MS, CRNA, and Alicia G. Rossiter, MSN, FNP, PNP-BC.
