USF College of Nursing faculty Members Presented Research at SNRS Annual Conference
Faculty members from University of South Florida College of Nursing will present at the Southern Nursing Research Society’s (SNRS) 27th Annual Conference at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock, Ark., Feb. 27 through March 2, 2013.
The SNRS conference, hosted byUniversity of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing, UAMS Medical Center, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital, will be focused on “Expanding Networks of Knowledge for Healthcare Innovations.”

Cindy Munro, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN, Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at USF College of Nursing, said the organization is the premiere nursing research society and the conference is essential for the College.
“There are four nursing research societies in the country, and SNRS is the largest and the most active in terms of the membership and research initiatives,” Dr. Munro said. “It is vitally important that we [USF Nursing faculty] participate in the organization and its conference every year because it really is the voice of nursing research in the southern region.”

“This is the women veterans study being conducted by the Womens Health Research group that I lead,” Dr. Groer said. “I am happy to represent our team in this presentation.Toxoplasma gondii is present in a third of the world, and is a chronic asymptomatic infection, but may have behavioral effects such as depression and suicidality.”

“I am grateful for the grant award and honored SNRS has accepted my research for presentation at their annual conference,” Dr. Messer said. “I look forward to the opportunity to tell what I think is an important story about a much ignored risk of pressure injury in patients undergoing ancillary procedures such as interventional radiology, cardiac and vascular procedures, and hemodialysis.”

“I am very excited about this poster!” said Dr. Maguire. “I just completed a “factor analysis” study of an instrument that has been used in the NICU since 1975 for infants exposed prenatally to narcotics. It’s going to revolutionize assessment in the NICU for infants who have Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, which is all over the news lately.”

Dr. Munro, who has been an SNRS member for almost 20 years, was recently selected the organization’s President Elect. She will take over as President at the SNRS 2014 Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas. She will hold the presidency title Feb. 2014 through Feb. 2016.
Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, dean of the USF College of Nursing and senior associate vice president of USF Health, will also attend the SNRS conference. Dr. Morrison-Beedy recently created a video, which can be seen below or the College’s YouTube Channel, to invite PhD students from across the country attending the conference to go visit the College of Nursing’s booth.
