USF College of Nursing hosts coming home 2014 alumni reunion
University of South Florida College of Nursing hosted the Coming Home 2014 Alumni Reunion on March 1 where more than 75 faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends were present to celebrate another year of alumni success.
The annual celebration began with a greeting from Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, senior associate vice president of USF Health and Dean of the USF College of Nursing, that highlighted the USF College of Nursing’s achievements over the past year, and laid out a foundation for what’s to come in the year ahead.
USF Nursing alums, Jean Aertker, DNP, ARNP-BC, COHN-S, FAANP, the owner and clinical director of Tampa Occupational Health Services, and Susan Scherer, RN, BSN, OCN, founder and CEO for RN Cancer Guides, LLC, spoke about nursing entrepreneurship.

Dr. Morrison-Beedy together with USF College of Nursing Alumni and Friends Society President and Assistant Professor, Melissa Molinari Shelton, PhD, RN, presenting the following awards:
- Cindy S. Tofthagen, PhD, ARNP, AOCNP, FAANP, USF College of Nursing Outstanding Young Alumnus Awards
- Guy Engelhardt, USF College of Nursing Alumni & Friends Service Award
Dr. Shelton honored members of the Class of 1979 GEMS Society with the GEMS Induction, and presented the Military Challenge Coin award to alumni and guests serving in the military, ROTC cadets, and currently serving in the armed forces.
Alumni were given the opportunity to tour the college’s Simulation and Bio-Behavioral laboratories or peruse tables featuring entrepreneurial enterprises by faculty and alumni.
The special evening continued with a gala-style reception flamenco dancer, Melissa Smith, and an instrumental music session from USF College of Medicine student and 2013 Mr. USF, Samson Lu.
“Returning to the college always elicits fond memories for me,” said USF Nursing alum Chris Conn, RN, MSN, CRRN, Nurse Specialist at Tampa General Hospital. “It was fun and I especially appreciated the social time.”
