USF Nursing warms patients’ hearts on Valentine’s Day
University of South Florida College of Nursing delivered 100 cuddly teddy bears to patients at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg on Valentine’s Day. USF Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) cadets joined USF College of Nursing students, alumni and friends to personally deliver the teddy bears.

“We were thrilled to bring joy to these little patients on Valentine’s Day,” said Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, senior associate vice president of USF Health and dean of the College of Nursing. “This initiative demonstrates USF College of Nursing as a positive force in Tampa Bay in partnership with our hospital and corporate partners, allowing us to fund new research and scholarship.”

USF College of Nursing does this as part of the USF College of Nursing Bulls Encouraging and Assisting through Research and Scholarship (B.E.A.R.S.) program. The college created B.E.A.R.S. in an effort to provide alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends with a new way to support USF College of Nursing while impacting the community.

During the 2013 holiday season, more than 100 students, faculty, alumni and friends delivered 800 bears to pediatric patients at six hospitals in the Tampa Bay area including Mease Countryside Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, Florida Hospital Tampa, Morton Plant Hospital, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The donated teddy bears are charitable gifts that contribute to the USF Unstoppable campaign, a comprehensive fundraising effort by the University of South Florida to celebrate the energy, vision and future of one of the country’s most exciting and engaged universities.
