Dr. Visovsky, who serves as co-chair for the ONS Foundation Small Grants Review Panel, received recognition for her contribution to the organization’s mission to support oncology nursing to improve the lives of people with or at risk of cancer. She has a long history of volunteering for ONS, at the local chapter and national level.

“This letter of appreciation meant a great deal to me as an acknowledgement of the true volunteer spirit that signifies the oncology nurses of today,” Dr. Visovsky said. “Giving back to our professional organization helps the organization serve its members well, and provides leadership and service opportunities for the volunteer. I believe volunteering is a way of serving nursing professionals and provides a means of role-modeling professional behaviors we wish to instill in our students, future and current oncology nurses.”

Dr. McMillan was recognized for her distinct contribution to ONS and its mission. She serves in the organization’s Board of Trustees overseeing the funds, and helping make decisions about how to award the money. Dr. McMillan has been volunteering for the organization since 2011.

“It is nice that they thought to thank me in this way,” McMillan said. “I do not need thanks, actually, because ONS is MY organization. I am an oncology nurse, so serving is the least I can do.”

The ONS Foundation, founded in 1981, is a national non-profit and charitable organization, which contributes to oncology nurses for education and research through donations, and helps shape cancer care for tomorrow.
