USF Nursing Participates in USF Health Interprofessional Education Course Amplifying Team Learning

University of South Florida College of Nursing faculty and students participated in a new program at USF Health honing Interprofessional education skills by providing case-based sessions across time, an approach that offers a more realistic view of how healthcare teams care for patients requiring multiple visits and whose care needs to be reassessed as their conditions change.

Faculty and students from the University of South Florida College of Nursing were out in full force participating in USF Health’s Interprofessional Education Small-Group Session on September 26, 2012.More than 36 USF Nursing students who are in their 5th semester went to the session along with other students from the USF College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.

More than 36 USF Nursing students in their 5th semester attended the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Small-Group Session on September 26, 2012 along with students from the USF Morsani College of Medicine and USF College of Pharmacy.

“This exercise gave all of the students some good insight into the roles of other disciplines and allowed them to explore how best to communicate with each other to drive positive patient outcomes,” said Gail H. Schinka RN, MS, CNN, USF Nursing Instructor and Clinical Collaborative VA Nursing Academy Faculty.

The group sessions will be facilitated by two faculty co-leaders to facilitate a discussion surrounding the care this female patient recovering from a stroke who is currently in a rehab facility.

According to USF Health IPE Working Group Committee, the program’s main objective is to have the students work together to develop a plan of care for a 65-year-old female patient recovering from a stroke who is currently in a rehab facility.
