COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENTS
April 2013 Undergraduate Student recipient: Sherley Dorvil
Sherley is passionate about serving others and enjoys the feeling of fulfillment that she gets from meeting the needs of others around her. As a result, Sherley performed blood pressure screenings for the attendees at the USF’s 10th Annual Diversity Summit and assisted with registration of guests at the College of Nursing’s VA Day. She participated in the JDRF’s “Walk to Cure Diabetes” walk to raise awareness and funding to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. As an active member of her church, she voluntarily assisted with the collection and distribution of clothing to the homeless people in downtown Tampa through a “Clothing the Needy” event hosted by her church. She is also an active participant in her church’s hospitality ministry and volunteers once monthly in her church’s toddler room.
April 2013 Graduate Student recipient: Nicole Barratt, MSN, ARNP, FNP-BC
Nicole is currently a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in the DNP Dermatology program. She is enthusiastic about helping others in the community along with providing education, which prompted her to take part in the 7th Annual Phil Phest started by the Philip A. Bryant Melanoma Foundation. During this event over 300 people in the community were screened for skin cancer. During these screenings, Nicole would make referrals and administer proper information to patients. All skin cancer screenings were free to the public. This was a new volunteering experience for Nicole and she claims that it was very rewarding.
