USF Nursing’s new ‘Introduction to Military and Veteran Health’ course subject of recent Tampa Tribune Article
Tampa Tribune reporter, Howard Altman, wrote an article about University South of Florida College of Nursing’s new online course NSP 3640: Introduction to Military and Veteran Health. The three-credit course is online based and will debut this Fall, August 27, 2012. The course is design to be interdisciplinary, and is open to any interested students.
“We have a large veteran population in Florida and up to 90 percent don’t receive health care through the Veterans Administration,” Altman quotes Alicia G. Rossiter, MSN, ARNP, FNP, PNP-BC, Instructor and Coordinator for Graduate Simulation at USF College of Nursing. “They are seen by nurses, physicians and clinics across the state and country, and we felt that providers need to know and be aware of the unique health issues surrounding the veteran and military population as well as their families.”
Introduction to Military and Veteran Health is an eight module online course that highlights many of the unique healthcare needs of our military and veteran population. The course starts with an overview of our veteran population, the culture of the military, the evolution of veteran healthcare, the military family, and will then discuss health related topics such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), polytrauma, women veteran health issues, and military sexual trauma (MST).
