USF Pre-Nursing LLC students volunteer at East-West Shrine Game Players Visit
University of South Florida Pre-Nursing Living Learning Community (LLC) students volunteered at the 89th East-West Shrine all-star football game player’s visit on Jan. 18 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
More than 25 students volunteered their time to help Shriners Hospital For Children with different tasks during the big event. The all-star game benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children and helps support the hospital’s mission of providing expert care to children in need. This is the third year Pre-Nursing LLC students volunteer at this event.

During this year’s event, pre-nursing LLC students spent two days helping Shriners Hospital for Children set up, clean up, assist with the photo stage and other activities. The students also supervised and monitored fun activities for the families and children admitted to Shriners Hospital.
“Participating in events such as the East-West Shrine Game players visit gives the LLC students the opportunity to get exposure to a variety of healthcare settings while partnering with a valuable campus resource,” said Scott Burgess, academic advisor for the graduate program at USF College of Nursing, who was also leading students at the event. “For many of the students, the ability to help in service with a local organization is very meaningful in their development.”
Pre-Nursing LLC students continually stay active in the community. They have previously collected toys for Shriners Hospital for Children, and have helped pack medical supplied for Advocates for World Health (AWH) to assist underserved patients in developing countries.
